Billy Bob makes strong case for fisherman of the year!

2009 the Year of Billy Bob

"Sitting aboard the "Cathy Ann" heading for the tuna grounds made for butterflies in the gut this morning." sang Billy Bob. "I knew we were going to catch one. I could just feel it." And catch they did! Captain Dave Patry has been having good fortune all 2009 season. "The waters around Stellwagen Bank have done me well this year. The success rate has been phenomenal."

Hey Rock Bottom, do I qualify for Fisherman of the Year?

Capt. Dave   says    "This is my year!!" "We have caught multiple tuna many of the days we have fished this season.  We have been very fortunate to catch so many."

A great day right from the start. "There goes the balloon!" Karl sets the hook and becomes a tuna fisherman! "How could I ever forget this day!"  "Thanks Capt. Dave!!!!"

                            Karl Talabach is a believer!

The "Cathy Ann"

Billy Bob scores another Blue Fin with Capt. Dave Patry

"We were just a few miles off the coast of Scituate when this little beauty hit the squid bar." said Billy Bob. Capt. Dave was overjoyed. "This is one of my best years for tuna! And it isn't over yet."

Fishing aboard the Cathy Ann

The ride over seemed short and before we could get all the gear out, we hooked up. The first one was a beauty and Billy had him aboard with out incident. The day was not boring as we hooked into 4 nice "football" tuna. The next fish was mine and I jumped when the fish hit and the drag started screaming. The fight was great and the fear of losing a nice fish kept me focused on the task at hand. Capt Dave was steady with the gaff and I had my first ever tuna in the boat. The fish ranged from 42-54 inches. We were kept busy with fish hitting every 30-45 minutes. Two we kept for steaks and the biggest one, caught by the captain, was photographed and released. One shook itself free at the side as Billy Bob reached for the leader. Captain Dave enjoyed every minute of the day and was glad to have the "Bite Me Bait Co." aboard. "As good a group of fishermen as we get aboard the Cathy Ann." said the captain. The ride home was great knowing that soon we would be grilling fresh tuna steaks.

Captain Dave shows off the biggest fish. This one was released to grow and fight another day.

Billy proudly holds his fish and has it ready for the table.
