The Duo!

Winter winds blow and we change our fishing habits. It's onto the ice and large mouth bass and crappie.

DUO plans run for Fisherman of the Year honors!

Last weekend in February and the ice fishing remains consistent.

The Duo and Rock Bottom were chasing crappie in vain, but hauling in some nice large mouth bass as a substitute! Same favorite crappie pond, but a different section to see if we could find where all the crappie were hiding.

We found the large mouths in the north end instead! 6-10 feet of water and various sized, but mostly medium, shiners brought the bass to the hook!

Meanwhile the DUO jumps in hook, line, and billy bobs!!!!

Declare commitment to the Grand Poobah!

Sporting their new Bite Me Bait Co look, the DUO show that our admissions team was right on and that they were deserving of their "Bucket." "In the end I didn't have to twist any arms." said Rock Bottom, the Grand Poobah. "It just took a few extra fishing trips to seal the deal."

The DUO remain red hot with discovery of a new secret spot for bass and crappie.

Some nice largemouth bass!

And some nice crappie to go along!

DUO Hits Late September Blues

From Plymouth to Cohasset, Massachusetts the "Blues are On!"

When the winds of autumn start blowing and we can't think about going to Stellwagon, What do we do? We stay inshore and go Bluefishing!

Trolling umbrella rigs and diving plugs, the DUO Cindy and Ken, just kept singing the blues. The scrappy, saw toothed stripers, put up quite a tussle when hooked. And there was no shortage of them. From acrobatic leaps to good runs, they supply all the excitement needed for a great trip. Using light gear can make it that much better for the experienced fisherman and the novice alike. Remember to have a couple of poles rigged with top water gear to throw when the bait is breaking on the surface. The thrill you get when that plug is smashed, won't soon be forgotten.

Cindy shows she's an expert when it comes to catching bluefish.

Most of the fish were 6-12 pounds however some bigger fish have been taken offshore a couple of miles. You might even get surprised with a big striped bass while your at it. Area ledges like Farnham's, The High Pines and even the Eye of The Wompanoag are holding fish. Dogfish haunt the bait fishermen in water deeper than 35ft.

Cod, and haddock on cocktail shrimp, so it was ladies first.

Mar-e shows off her first keeper of the year.

"Elmer pick up a bag of frozen, uncooked and unpeeled shrimp at the market." read the e-mail. "See you at 0530 at the dock." Ken, one half of the DUO was meeting Mar-e and me for a morning of cod and haddock fishing. We met Captain G-No and the crew of the "Irish Ayes" for breakfast at Anita Marie's in Rockland Center, then off to meet Ken in Green Harbor. The Irish Ayes got in the water first and were long gone by the time we got out to open water. Captain G-No along with Rock Bottom, Billy Bob and special guest the "Earle" were chasing haddock also and were going east. We followed along at a distance and as we passed the protection of the "Cape" the seas kicked up some so we stopped to try a spot near the "Rock Pile".  "Bring out the shrimp Elmer I have a bag in the bucket over there." So I think maybe he just likes his shrimp cold. Ken just laughed at me and put one on each hook and over the side they went.  "These babies will catch us some cod and haddock and leave the dog fish on the bottom." Ken said.  We all hooked fish and after a few rats each, Mar-e got the first keeper.

Does the shrimp work? You bet and no dogfish either. This was my first experience with the shrimp trick and it broke my stomach's heart to see one spent in this way. Not any more! Already I'm thinking will jumbos get me bigger fish! Ken's fish all hit his bait hard. Even the smaller fish. They (the shrimp)work on all the fish you want to catch and limit those you do not want to catch.

Duo makes impact on Nomans Island Fluke

While the non-fishing vessels lined up to bid us good by, we went and braved a rough sea to get to where the fluke were. We chose a spot out of the SW sea near Nomans Island and boy were we glad to end up there. With Lucy our fluke dog in full gear waiting for the first one to be brought over the side, we were ready. . And it wasn't long before we were on our way to catching our limit of fluke. We had a bunch we threw back and some nice black sea bass to round out the days catch. Largest fish of the day was 5 lbs and 2 ozs. "It's been a great fishing season for us." said Cindy. "Ken's had a busy time filleting this year." "And it will be burgers all around tonite." called Ken. Lucy barked loudly in agreement. "Make mine a cheese burger."

And when your bored on a day off. Call some friends and go "Bug" hunting. Divers down, bring lobsters up. "I'm going to go out and get me a Mega Millions ticket." says Ken gleefully. "Seems I can't miss these days."

"I took a few friends diving and we hit the sweet spot. The ocean floor looked like the SE Expressway on a Friday afternoon. We took advantage of the situation!"

Tuna Man

Ken, the male half of the DUO, scores a beautiful Blue fin tuna!

100+ pound fish makes the season for Ken.

I could be FOTY too!

January 18, 2009 the "Duo" again show their stuff at Oldham Pond. Snow storm doesn't slow the fishing here. 2.5 hours and not a slow minute.

The grill was hot and the food was never ending. We even picked up some new members "The Duo".
