Day 2 March 14, 2010

No  homes washed away on Saquish Beach in Plymouth during last night's or this morning's high tides Less sand washed away from the dunes on shore compared to how much disappeared from the beach itself. What once was a long white sand beach is now a stone beach from end to end. The top photo is yesterday and the bottom one today. Notice the increase of sand on the dune but far more stones on the beach itself.

Lots of stone to drive on. And lots of exposed pilings to dodge. From Fire Road 2 to the beach exit at the "curve", beach stone rules.

We ran across a number of sea foam drifts blown off Duxbury Beach and on to the dune and across the road. At times it moved and rippled reminding everyone of the movie "The Blob" In other places it caught on the bushes and looked like a Mississippi cotton field at harvest time. Mostly it filled the sky at times and we even saw a "foam devil".

Where is the plow?

Home owners cannot feel safe as tonight's tide and wind may not spare the exposed homes much longer.

Here I stand on the beach about 100 feet from where it was in September 2009

The greatest difference from yesterday is the immense volume of stone that now covers the beach. I am sure that when better weather comes some of the sand may move back toward shore. Rehabilitating the area may be too expensive to undertake leaving little in the way of future storms and hurricanes.
