Secret Spot #2
I hate to give up this secret but the BMBC Board challenged me to give away a special spot. This spot is not well known. Park your car at the ramp access on the SE corner of the pond off Herring Pond rd. Travel on the east side of the pond to where the house jut out into the pond. If you have a fish finder you will have no trouble finding the reef. The reef consists of tires. on the bottom level is three tires standing upright in a three corner hat figure. On top of those are two in a triangle with another one on top. There are quite a few of these starting in about ten feet of water out to forty feet deep. I was scuba diving and discovered it. There are bass in the bottom of the reef. (Large and Smallmouths) Pickerel patrol the upper portions. White Bass swim in schools near the surface. I even saw a large American Eel sitting on the apex of one of the reef pieces. The alewives come up into the pond and the spring and spawn, providing plenty of forage.
The BMBC made a trip to Herring pond this winter and were shutout except for some good sized perch.
