Keeper Cod by Jimdogg and one of the many mackerel salted away for future striper, tuna and fluke fishing by Billy Bob

Tinker Mackerel Schools are in shore with Cod chasing them

Time to head out and fill the bait freezer. Mackerel can be found all along the coast from the Cape Cod Canal northward to New Hampshire. Look for schools being chased by cod no less. Troll till you hook up and get the gear in the water. Hook up a small one and get it down near the bottom. Cod and striped bass may come calling. There were plenty of herring mixed in between the schools of mackerel. Make sure to throw them back.

Get them in the boat and in the freezer.  Sprinkle with 3 parts salt, 1 part baking soda. Wrap in whatever you want and freeze.

Mackerel 2007

May 26, 2007 and another great day on the water. A brisk wind made it a little choppy at times but the wind died down quite a bit at the end of the day. Mackerel were spotty at times and a chum pot of ground macs from last year kept us going most of the day.

Billy Bob, alias Computer Bob,

shows his stuff adding one more to the bait bucket.

Elmer says here they are get the rods in the water!

One of the best parts of fishing for mackerel, to use as striper bait for the summer, is the stripers you catch. This trip was no exception. Jimdogg put the squeeze on a schoolie and Elmer hit the rod lottery to land a nice 30 inch fish. The macs were large on average with some really big ones.

"Rock Bottom" did a bang up job putting us on fish and keeping our affiliate boats informed as to where the fish were.

Beautiful clear blue water made it quite a day for fishing. Great start to 2007.

Mackerel 2006

Showing off on his first mackerel trip, "Jimdogg" scores a fiver!

With 7 "fishermen" the BMBC team scored over 300 for the day!

One friend of "Rock'S" scored a big striper on live bait. A visual puts it near 30 lbs.

Mackerel varied from "tinkers" to "horse" mackerel though we have seen bigger.

A great day and we stocked up on bait for the Spring Classic.

Plenty of blue and mackerel!!!            "Elmer Junior" scores one of many.

Elmer's son loses only good fish of the day to a broken snap swivel. As we looked on the departing cod, I knew I was going to hear about this one! Cod took a live mackerel in 60 feet of water. Looked about 6-8 lbs.

Oh Oh this doesn't look good!

"Rock Bottom" saved the day!
