Lake George, New York
Lake trout and Smallmouth Bass

Starting at it's northern end in Toconderoga, Lake George runs some 30 miles south toward Glens Falls. It's crystal clear waters hold some of the best fishing in the area. This trip we were seeking togue or lake trout. A quick check on the internet turned up the "HighLiner" with Captain Justin. He is located at the docks in Capri Village on Rte 9n in Diamond Point.

Down riggers and stick baits were the order of the day. So with Mother's Day Mare-E on board we set out. The water was choppy and the wind was an issue at times. However we were well rewarded.

The Captain had us on fish in no time and it wasn't long before we caught our first "Lakers".

Mare-E caught some beauties and caught two of the three we had on at one point. Also some nice smallies as a by catch helped make Mother's day 2007 really special.

Yes even I got into the action with some nice fish of my own.

After a great day with captain Justin on the "HighLiner" Elmer couldn't wait to fish smallies from the kayak. The pre- spawn fish were hanging in 20-30 feet of water along the edges of the rock piles that were next to deep water. Casting up onto the pile and jigging it over the edge brought 8 fish from 6 inches to 3 pounds in about a half hour. Green and red grubs on 1/4 oz jig heads did the job. Capt. Justin showed me where the drop off was and I took it from there. Best fish was a 4-5 pound largemouth with beautiful markings. Unfortunately my camera person was out of commission.

All fish were released and swimming.
