Bar Harbor, Maine
Storm of Oct.28-29 2006
Or a trip down memory lane for Rush and the missus.
As we crossed the narrows to Mount Desert Island many memories returned from previous trips.

Here by the shore Autumn still reigns!

Downtown at the harbor there was still much to see. Many of the local fishermen and their families were seeing to last minute details, making sure all was secure at the boat and docks.

One of the hot spots to visit is Thunder Hole!

Not much to see today except an idyllic ocean and blue!

As the next day dawned the wind had shifted into the east and southeast. Even near low tide the water was being swept in.

Near high tide we got the full "Monty" including the wave getting both of us soaked. The wind was blowing 20-30 straight into the gorge. The rain was coming in near horizontal in sheets. What a great spectacle!
Acadia, the surrounding towns and villages, make this part of the world a must to see. Make sure to drive up Cadillac Mountain.

Every where we looked the was stunning beauty!
Then the "Storm"

Bass Harbor Light stands in waiting sending it's light out into the impending gloom!

Then came the winds. The winds picked up in speed all
morning. The rain started at 09:30 and by 11:00 was coming down moderately. By
4:00PM the winds were screaming and the rain hurt.

The docks and seawalls were crowded with pickup trucks filled with fishermen keeping a eye on the boats in the harbor. Late evening winds topped 60 mph and power was knocked out to a lot of people in the area. But all storms end and next morning showed little damage to the fleet and most people were going about business as usual. There were 3-4 earthquakes in the past week and no one was concerned. The waitress in the local breakfast joint even had a "I survived the Earthquakes of 2006" t-shirt.

Eider ducks fill the coast line.

The rest belongs to me!
